SUMTER COUNTY, S.C. — Authorities have released the name of a man whose body was found near a Sumter County home on Saturday morning.
The Sumter County Sheriff's Office said deputies were dispatched to Byas Road around 9:50 a.m. after 911 operators received a call regarding an unconscious person lying near a home there. Deputies found the body of a deceased person and, through their investigation, determined the person had been shot.
Sumter County Coroner Robbie Baker later identified the victim as 20-year-old D'ante Archie of Sumter County.
The sheriff's office said deputies found the victim's vehicle parked on the road. Further investigation determined that their discovery on Saturday morning may have been related to a shooting that happened on Duffie Drive around 2 a.m.
Sheriff Anthony Dennis said investigators are still gathering evidence and speaking with witnesses. The department said it would release additional information as it became available.
An autopsy is scheduled for Archie at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston.
