Sumter, SC (WLTX) - A 19-year-old student was arrested by the Sumter Police Department in connection with a hallway assault at Sumter High School.
Deputies say Nason Samuel Smith struck an 18-year-old victim in the head several times around 10:15 a.m. December 14.
A student and teacher reportedly pulled Smith off the victim, who didn't fight back.
Statements indicate the fight broke out after a female student was called a name by the victim.
Smith is charged with assault and battery in third degree and disturbing schools. He was booked at the Sumter-Lee Regional Detention Center and released on a $1,000 bond.
The investigation is ongoing.
