SUMTER, S.C. — A 21-year-old Sumter man has been arrested after drugs, thousands of dollars in cash, dogs, and equipment possibly tied to illegal dogfighting were found at his home on Lauderdale Lane.

Patrick Taevon Williams has been charged with trafficking crack cocaine-1st offense, trafficking cocaine-1st offense, manufacturing crack cocaine, two counts of ill treatment of animals and two counts of animal fighting or baiting.

Two pit bulls -- one which appeared neglected and showed scarring consistent with dogfighting -- and equipment typically used in dogfighting were found during a search of Williams' home on Monday.

Investigators also found 46 grams of crack cocaine valued at $9,200; 20 grams of cocaine valued at $4,000; and $10,000 in cash. Evidence of manufacturing crack cocaine was also discovered.

The charges were a result of an ongoing investigation by Sumter Police and South Carolina State Law Enforcement Division (SLED). Williams was booked into the local detention center.
