Sumter private school coach arrested for alleged inappropriate texts

The victim said she became uncomfortable about the texts she was receiving and reported them to school officials.

SUMTER COUNTY, S.C. — An educator and coach at a Sumter County private school has been arrested and accused of sending inappropriate text messages to a juvenile.

The Sumter County Sheriff's Office said that the administration of Sumter Christian School contacted law enforcement on March 15 and reported that coach Andre Johnson allegedly sent the texts.

The victim said she reported the texts after becoming uneasy about them. In them, investigators said Johnson "expressed that he wished to have sex with the individual." He also allegedly sent pornographic images, investigators said.

Johnson has since been charged Johnson with criminal solicitation of a minor.

Investigators said that Johnson was arrested on March 20 after surrendering to deputies. He was taken to the Sumter County Sheriff's Office Detention Center where he was released on a $5,000 bond.
