Sumter, SC (WLTX) - A state grand jury has indicted a woman who they say took over $10,000 from the Sumter School District while she worked there.
Vivian Campbell Dubose is charged with two counts of embezzlement and one count of misconduct in office.
Dubose worked as the director of the Child Early Reading Development and Educational Program for the district. State prosecutors say while in that role, she bought a variety of good and converted at least $10,000 worth of the purchases to her personal sue. They say she also received payment for training that she didn't actually conduct or wasn't properly certified/registered to conduct, and use that money for personal use.
In bringing the misconduct charge, the state says she failed to "properly administer the program while exploiting her position for unlawful personal gain and did, by malfeasance, misfeasance, and nonfeasance, commit acts and omissions in breach of her duty of good faith, honesty, and accountability to the public."
If convicted, she faces a maximum penalty of 30 years in prison along with a fine.
