Widow of taco truck owner has message for judge who released husband's accused killer on bond

Lorena Enriquez spoke exclusively with KHOU 11 News after learning police had charged a parolee with killing her husband, 29-year-old Roberto Almaguer Garza.

HOUSTON, Minn. — The widow of a taco truck owner gunned down in southeast Houston earlier this month has a message for the judge who let his accused killer out on bond.

Jimmie Wayne Daniels, 21, is charged with capital murder in the shooting death of Roberto Almaguer Garza, a 29-year-old father of three small children.

He was found shot to death near his taco truck on the Gulf Freeway near Monroe early on the morning of Oct. 13. Police said Daniels shot him multiple times during a robbery.

His widow, Lorena Enriquez, told us in Spanish that she rushed to the scene and found him on the ground covered with a white sheet but police wouldn't let her near him. She said it was a nightmare that her husband's life ended in such a horrible way.

Enriquez said Almaguer was working hard to support his family and they were saving up money to buy a home.

Daniels recently completed a prison sentence for robbery and terroristic threat. Before Almaguer's shooting, Daniels was arrested for unlawfully carrying a weapon, but released on a $2,500 bond despite his criminal record.

The victim's wife is angry that he was set free on such a low bond despite his record.

“I want to ask that judge, thanks to their decision my husband is no longer here,"  Enriquez told us. "For taking things lightly, I want that judge to explain to my kids why daddy will no longer come home. Daddy didn’t abandon us.”

Now she's left with only memories of the loving and playful husband and father. She plans to take his body home to Monterrey to bury him. The family set up a GoFundMe account to help with burial expenses.
