The victim was taken to a Columbia hospital and, at least check, was stable. Police didn't have the victim's exact condition.

SUMTER, S.C. — A 15-year-old has been charged with attempted murder following a Wednesday afternoon shooting in Sumter.

According to the Sumter Police Department, the shooting happened around 2:45 p.m. Deputies were called to Ash Street, where they found an 18-year-old shooting victim. Investigators learned that the victim was parked in front of a home on Barwick Street when someone fired into his vehicle. Police said he tried to drive away but crashed and then ran to Ash Street.

Police said the 15-year-old alleged shooter ran from the scene on Barwick Street, but officers found him soon after and took him into custody. The teen suspect was taken into custody by the South Carolina Department of Juvenile Justice on charges of attempted murder, possession of a handgun by a person under 18 and discharging a gun into an occupied vehicle.

Police are still investigating the shooting and said the victim, as of Thursday morning, was listed as stable, but his exact condition wasn't available. Authorities did confirm he was flown to a Columbia hospital for treatment.
