DUNCAN, S.C. — State agents say in warrants that a South Carolina teenager suffered and died due to the neglect of three family members entrusted with his care. Now, all three are facing charges, and the child's mother is accused of murder.
The victim's grandfather, 64-year-old Freddie Lee Fish Sr., his uncle, 33-year-old Freddie Lee Fish II, and his mother were each charged with various crimes after the victim died months after his last doctor's visit in 2022.
The warrants state the child was left in "deplorable" conditions, not provided adequate nutrition and not given needed medication to control his seizure disorder. The report also states that the child was not brought in for ordered blood work. Warrants go on to say the child had lost the ability to walk and weighed only 47 pounds at the time of his death.
Years after the death, the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division charged Fish II with accessory before the fact to a violent felony and unlawfully placing a child at risk. Fish Sr. was charged with unlawfully placing a child at risk, and the child's mother, Fish, was charged with murder, inflicting great bodily injury on a child, and unlawful conduct toward a child.
All three have been booked at the Spartanburg County Detention Center. The Seventh Circuit Solicitor's Office is prosecuting the case.
