GREENWOOD, S.C. — Greenwood Police are searching for an "armed and dangerous" suspect accused of killing someone he knew on Saturday afternoon.
The police department said that just after 1:30 p.m., officers were called to 125 Oakhill Avenue regarding a shooting. They arrived to find a 36-year-old man with a gunshot wound. Emergency medical services personnel took him to Self Regional Healthcare, but the victim later died.
Further investigation led investigators to secure warrants for the arrest of 40-year-old Tony Matthew Landron on charges of murder and possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime. Authorities said the suspect and the victim knew each other. Police haven't revealed details regarding the motive for the shooting but said they believe Landron pulled out a gun and shot the victim.
The department warned residents not to approach Landron, describing him as "armed and dangerous." Instead, officials want anyone with information on him to call 911 or directly contact the Greenwood Police Department's detective division at 864-942-8407.
Police didn't publicly release the victim's name.
