Woman hospitalized after viral group attack in Bishopville area; arrests made

A woman is hospitalized after a group assault near Bishopville. Authorities arrested two suspects and are debunking social media rumors. The investigation continues.

LEE COUNTY, S.C. — A woman is recovering in the hospital following a violent fight Monday night in Bishopville, according to the Lee County Sheriff’s Office.

Sheriff Daniel Simon confirmed that two women are in custody in connection with the incident. As the investigation continues, more arrests are expected.

The fight at Church Wood Community Park gained widespread attention after a graphic video circulated on social media. The video, obtained by investigators, shows the victim being attacked by several women and a man. Authorities said evidence linked to the case was collected at the park.

Deputies first responded to a trespassing call Monday night on Corbett Street, where a woman reported that the victim had rushed inside her home. Investigators later interviewed the victim, who told deputies she was assaulted and claimed she had been run over by a vehicle.

The incident report confirmed that the victim did not sustain any fractures and was not pregnant. Addressing online rumors, Sheriff Simon said the spread of inaccurate information on social media created roadblocks in the investigation.

One woman seen in the video told authorities she planned to turn herself in and that she and the victim had agreed to fight.

Simon reassured the public that there is no ongoing threat and that additional charges are expected as the investigation progresses.
