SLED investigation leads to dismissal, charges of detention center employees

LAURENS COUNTY, S.C. — Two former employees of the Johnson Detention Center in  Laurens County have been dismissed and charged with misconduct in office following an investigation by South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED).

SLED agents were called in by the Laurens County Sheriff's Office on Feb. 13, 2024, to investigate allegations of misuse of inmate labor for personal gain by detention center personnel. 

Nicolas A. Walker, 39, and Holly Lynn Walker, 34, were arrested and charged with misconduct in office after an incident involving the services of an inmate trustee was discovered. The alleged incident occurred some time between November 2023 and February 19, 2024, in Clinton, South Carolina. 

The two were booked at the Laurens County Detention Center on Feb. 19.
