Video shows USPS worker robbed during route in Greensboro

Multiple suspects tied to robbing at least two postal employees in Greensboro were arrested. They were also linked to USPS worker robberies in Charlotte.

GREENSBORO, N.C. — A newly obtained video shows a scary situation in a Greensboro neighborhood on Tuesday morning. It shows a person robbing a postal worker at gunpoint while they were delivering mail on Glenwood Avenue.

Police have arrested four people in connection to robbing two United States Postal Service (USPS) workers in Greensboro and committing similar robberies in Charlotte, according to the Greensboro Police Department (GPD).

GPD said one employee was robbed at gunpoint near Glenwood Avenue and Haywood Street while delivering mail around 10 a.m. The video shows one of the suspects approach the employee, while that employee backs away. A second USPS worker was also robbed that same morning on Carteret Street about 20 minutes later.

WFMY News 2 spoke with several neighbors who said it's discouraging when something like this happens in their neighborhood.

"We need to be a neighborhood that looks out for each other, that provides good opportunities for kids and young adults to have meaningful things to do," said Dayna Carr, Greater Glenwood Neighborhood Association. "We need to be a community that focuses on the good, the good things that are happening and the growth that's happening here."

Detectives described the suspect's car as a blue Nissan Rogue with a North Carolina tag and sent an alert to law enforcement agencies in the area. The same suspects then traveled to Charlotte and committed additional robberies of USPS employees, GPD said.

Around 2:40 p.m., GPD found the suspect's car in the 2400 block of Randleman Road. When police tried to pull them over, the suspects took off running but were quickly cuffed.

"It probably was gonna just continue to happen throughout the next days and weeks," said GPD Capt. Anthony Price. "And so when you can, after a few incidents, catch them right away in the same day, it's pretty impressive."

Investigators said one of the suspects, 18-year-old Jason Harrington, accidentally shot himself with his own gun below the waist. He was taken to a local hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.

Three other suspects were also taken into custody:

  • Taijawan Cross, 19 — ordered to have an ankle monitor and a curfew during his first court appearance
  • Shaun Clark, 21
  • Deonte Overby, 20

All four suspects were charged with two counts of Robbery with a Dangerous Weapon and two counts of Felony Conspiracy for the Greensboro armed robberies.

"They're called the Violent Crime Reduction Team for a reason," Price said. "So a lot of times we see these armed robberies turn into a loss of life. No loss of life occurred and we got these offenders off the street."

Police said additional charges are pending for the robberies in Charlotte on this date. The suspects are currently at the Guilford County Jail.

None of the victims were injured during the robberies.
