SUMTER, S.C. — Sumter Police are investigating reports of gunfire that appear to have led to vehicle damage at a neighboring business.
The department said in a statement that officers were initially called to the Walmart Neighborhood Market on Pinewood Road around 6 p.m. on Thursday after witnesses heard gunfire nearby. Investigators determined the gunfire occurred at nearby Super Power Car Wash, where two vehicles pulled up and exchanged gunfire before speeding away.

Authorities don't know who was involved in the shooting or why it occurred. Police said one person parked at the Walmart Neighborhood Market reported damage from a stray bullet. Police have received no reports of injuries from the incident as their investigation continues.
