Emotional testimonies continue in Columbiana Centre shooting trial's fourth day

Throughout the day, victims who were wounded by gunfire recounted the traumatic event.

LEXINGTON, S.C. — Testimony continued Thursday on the fourth day of the trial of Jewayne Price, one of three people charged in the shooting at Columbiana Centre during Easter weekend 2022.

The case, State v. Jewayne Price, entered its fourth day with emotional testimony from several victims.

Throughout the day, victims who were wounded by gunfire recounted the traumatic event. For privacy reasons, the names and faces of the victims were not made public, but their voices filled the courtroom as they described the events that unfolded on the day of the shooting.

One witness testified she saw a tall, dark-skinned man fire a weapon, whom the prosecution argued was Price.

“The guy you saw doing the shooting is the guy you describe as a tall guy in that black shirt you pointed out earlier?” the prosecution asked.

“Yes,” she responded.

“And that shot you heard and you saw came from him?”

“Yes," she responded.

During cross-examination, the defense challenged the witness’s ability to recall the events, questioning whether her injuries and the shock of the moment affected her memory. The witness, however, firmly stood by her testimony.

“I would imagine for you it would be difficult to kinda recount everything that happened?” the defense asked.

“No,” she replied.

“You remember everything that happened right?”

“Yes.”

“You remember everything you can see?”

“Yes,"

"And so for you, This is something you'll probably remember for the rest of your life right?"

"And my family too, yes."

"Extremely traumatic?"

"Yes," she responded.

Another witness, who viewed footage of the shooting during his testimony, spoke about the long-term emotional toll the event has had on him and his family.

“It still haunts me, It’s hard to sleep at night for me and my wife, and we have to live with it every day," he said.

The defense had no cross-examination questions for the second witness.

Price faces two counts of attempted murder, nine counts of assault and battery of a high and aggravated nature, and unlawful carry of a pistol.

The trial will resume Friday at 9 a.m.
