Dash cam video released in South Carolina officer-involved shooting

Video showing shots being fired at a South Carolina State Trooper was released. The trooper and the suspect were shot, but had non life-threatening injuries.

COLUMBIA, S.C. — Dash camera video has been released in the York County officer-involved shooting, where both a South Carolina trooper and a suspect were shot.

On June 2nd, Trooper Paul Wise was attempting to pull over William Bernard Wright, 27, or Gaffney, when Wright led Wise on a chase in York County.

Eventually the chase stopped at a dead end. That's when Wright allegedly got out of the car and shot at Trooper Wise.

All of this was captured on dash-cam footage. At least 12 shots were allegedly fired by Wright, who then tried to flee the scene.

News 19 decided to edit the video, taking out the most graphic portions of the shooting. However, we did not change the context of the video.

According to U.S. Attorney Sherri Lydon's release on the case, " Trooper Wise was struck in his ballistic vest in the chest area and sustained other injuries to the right side of his neck."

Wise then got out of his squad car returned fire at Wright, then arrested him.

Both were taken to the hospital, but were later released

Wright was charged with one federal count of possession of a weapon by a convicted felon. He also faces several charges in York County, including attempted murder, possession of a weapon during a violent crime, possession of a weapon by a convicted felon, and failure to stop for blue lights.

Wright is now in federal custody and faces a maximum of 10 years in federal prison.
