Columbia, SC (WLTX) - Since private wells can be impacted by flooding DHEC is providing instructions on disinfecting wells and offering private well water testing in South Carolina.

Before disinfection, check the condition of your well. Make sure there is no exposed or damaged wiring. If you notice any damage, call a professional before the disinfection process.
Private Well Water Testing Hours & Locations: If you have a private well that was flooded during the recent flooding event in South Carolina, your well water could be contaminated.
Regular Hours
Water test sample bottles may be picked up at any SC DHEC health or environmental location Monday to Friday, 8:30am to 5pm. To find the location nearest you, visit: www.scdhec.gov/Agency/Locations/
Samples may be returned at these same locations Monday through Thursday from 8:30 am to 5 pm and Fridays from 8:30am to noon. Instructions for sample collection will be provided when you pick up your bottle.
Extended Drop-off and Pick-up Locations and Hours
To help serve the need of those impacted by flooding across the state, several DHEC environmental offices will also be open for water test pick-ups and drop-offs on weekends from October 10, 2015 through November 1, 2015.
