COLUMBIA, S.C. — The first day of school is closer than you think for many in the Midlands. To that end, Select Health of South Carolina's First Choice health plan hosts its first Jump Back-to-School event of the summer in Columbia on Saturday, July 20.

The bilingual staff of Select Health will be at First Choice Community Center, 217 Park Terrace Dr., in the Harbison area of Columbia, 9 a.m.-noon, to assist Spanish-speaking families of children headed to school in grades K-12.

Backpacks with school supplies will be handed out for free, while supplies last, and there will be children's activities and back-to-school information available from more than 20 agencies and community partners. Interpretation services will be available for attendees with limited English abilities.

While the event is free, those who want to attend are asked to register in advance by calling 1-888-676-9588.

Select Health will also hold Jump Back-to-School events the next three Saturdays in Greenville, North Charleston and Conway.
