A.C. Moore Elementary takes field trip to State Fair

A.C. Moore Elementary class took their first field trip of the year to the State Fair

COLUMBIA, S.C. — The South Carolina State Fair was the first field trip of the year for kindergarten students from A.C. Moore Elementary.

While some students claim to be fairground experts, others are new to the excitement of the fair.

Kimberli Anderson normally spends her days in the classroom with these students. Today's field trip offered a new environment for the learning to continue.

“Well, the South Carolina State Fair is part of their home, so what better way to get to know a little bit more about your environment and to go where you are going to see everything," Anderson said.

Surrounded by rides and food, Anderson explained the students are starting to better understand geography, thanks to field trips like this.

"It ties into our science and our history. Yesterday, we had a conversation about the history of South Carolina. We talked about how our capital moves from Charleston here to Columbia. So to know that our state fair happens in the capital, and they get to live in the capital as well, that's a big experience for me as well," Anderson explained.

Nicolas Wilcox has taught kindergarten for nearly two decades

"Every year and in the past, we get a chance to see the barnyard animals and see that whole livestock area," Wilson said. "The kids love the animals. We love the little ducks and chickens that go down the slide. So, it's super fun and it gives kids a chance to get up close and see some of that, so we love it."
