BLYTHEWOOD, S.C. — For more than 20 years, Christine Parent has been helping students foster of love for learning.
Parent currently teaches fourth grade at Lake Carolina Elementary Upper Campus. Her students use technology on a regular basis to help them learn about our nation’s history.
“We’ve been learning about Lewis and Clark during the Westward Expansion,” said Anissa Higgins.
Higgins and her classmates enjoy using programs like Kahoot and Quizlet, because it gives them the opportunity to work with their friends.
“We usually work together on activities,” said Becca White. “It’s a lot easier to work together when you’re nice to people.”
When we stopped by to surprise Ms. Parent as the News 19 Teacher of the Week, we saw the example she sets for her students.
“I try to talk about kindness and treating everyone with kindness and respect,” said Parent. “We talk about it every day.”
It was a student’s mother who nominated Christine Parent, because of the relationship she’s built with her child in the classroom. Relationships Ms. Parent says starts before the first day of school.
“Something I do every year is have the parents write me a letter about their children,” said Parent. “It really helps me to get to know the students."
