COLUMBIA, S.C. — Larry Pickett is a third-grade student at Brennen Elementary School in Columbia. If you ask him about his favorite teacher, he certainly has a lot to say.
“She makes me feel great,” said Pickett. “I love being in this classroom. Every time I come in here I know I’m going to have a good day.”
His teacher, Lauren Dasher wants all her students to feel special.
“I love being around kids every day,” said Dasher. “They’re smart, witty and they pick up on things so quickly.”
It was Larry’s mom that wrote in to nominate Mrs. Dasher as the News 19 Teacher of the Week.
“This is such a wonderful surprise,” said Dasher. “Especially this close to spring break.”
Her students say, Mrs. Dasher is deserving of this award because of her kindness and generosity.
“She really helps us learn,” said Jaiden Ludovina. “If we have something that’s hard, she helps us understand it better.”
Mrs. Dasher says she always tries to be the example, because patience, a positive attitude and a smile go a long way.
“What they see is what’s reflected,” said Dasher. “If I’m calm, they will be calm and then we all have a great day.”
