SPRINGDALE, S.C. — A major performance venue is one step closer to its grand opening following a "topping off" ceremony that was held Wednesday to commemorate the milestone.
According to a statement from Lexington School District Two, the Lexington Two Performing Arts Center in Springdale is slated for an early 2024 opening. Current and former members of the school board as well as members of the local and school district community were on-hand for the event with participants given the opportunity to sign the final structural beam before it was lifted into place.
The new performing arts center, when complete, is expected to hold 1,550 audience members and will have a two-level balcony. The center, described as a "state-of-the-art venue" by the district, will also have upgraded stage lighting and sound systems along with the inclusion of dressing rooms, set storage and backstage areas.
While the performing arts center will prioritize use by students, schools and employees, it will also present opportunities for other conferences and competitions as well as community and cultural events.
The center is the final project from a voter-approved $225 million bond referendum in 2014.
