RICHLAND COUNTY, S.C. — Several Midlands schools have canceled all after school programs and activities, including athletic games and practices, that were scheduled for Thursday, February 6, 2020.
Bamberg District Two
Bamberg School District Two will dismiss at 11:15 a.m., on Thursday, February 6, 2020, due to anticipated weather conditions. Please visit the district’s website and Facebook page for updates.
Ben Lippen School
Ben Lippen School will dismiss at 2pm today. All after-school activities including athletics & lower school aftercare have been cancelled. Buses will not run between campuses after school. Tonight’s Open House has been postponed.
Bethel Learning Center
The Columbia Bethel Learning Center will be closing at noon due to the impending weather.
Camden Military Academy
With severe weather predicted this afternoon and out of an abundance of caution, the Gold Star Parade scheduled for today has been postponed. The Gold Star Parade is held annually to recognize cadets that achieved academic excellence for the first semester.
Center for Learning Inc
The school on Covenant Road will close at 2:30 p.m. and has cancelled all after school activities
City of Columbia After School Programs
City of Columbia Parks and Recreation Department has announced that they will cancel ALL afterschool programs on Thursday, February 6, 2020 due to inclement weather.
With the potential threat of thunderstorms and high wind speeds in the forecast, the City of Columbia has canceled all Afterschool Programs and Afterschool Activities (sports, athletics, etc.) on Thursday, February 6, 2020.

Claflin University
Claflin University, in Orangeburg, will close at 1 p.m. today, February 6, due to the possibility of severe storms which may include heavy wind and rain. Evening classes and activities are also canceled.
- The University Dining Center will serve lunch (10:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m.) and dinner (5-7:30 p.m.). There will be no late night dining this evening. Jazzman’s Café and Pizza Hut will close at 3 p.m.
- The 1869 Club will serve lunch today from 12-2 p.m.
- Please note that the Honda Campus All-Star Challenge National Qualifying Tournament set for Friday, February 7, will be held as scheduled.
Clarendon County School District One
Due to severe weather threats for Thursday, Feb. 6, as a precautionary measure Clanreon School District One schools will operate on a half-day schedule. For the list of dismissal times, click here.

Due to potential inclement weather, all CSD2 Schools will dismiss early. For the list of times for each school, click here.
Clarendon County School District Three
Due to the threat of severe weather and high winds tomorrow afternoon, Walker Gamble Elementary will dismiss at 12 p.m. and East Clarendon will dismiss at 12:30 p.m.
Denmark Technical College
Due to expected inclement weather, the College will be closing at 4:00 pm. All evening classes are cancelled. Normal business hours resume Friday.
Fairfield County School District
All after-school activities at Fairfield County schools are canceled on Thursday based on the potential for severe weather and unsafe travel conditions on Thursday afternoon.
Fairfield elementary and middle schools will dismiss early at 11:30 a.m., high schools at 12:20 p.m.
Grey Collegiate Academy
The West Columbia school is dismissing at 12:45 p.m.
GREEN Charter Schools of the Midlands
ALL after school activities are cancelled including clubs, the after school program and the Honor Roll celebration.
Hammond Academy
Early dismissal times: Lower and Middle schools at 12:45 p.m., Upper school at 1:05 p.m.
Kershaw County School District
All Kershaw County School District (KCSD) afterschool programs, activities, athletic events and practices including adult education classes are canceled for today.
KCSD officials will continue to monitor weather conditions, and if any other schedule changes are made, families will be notified via the district's automated messaging system, websites and social media.
Lee County School District
Due to the potential threat of severe weather conditions, Lee County School District will dismiss early on Thursday, February 6, 2020. The elementary schools will dismiss at 11:30 a.m. The middle and high schools will dismiss at 12:00 p.m. In addition, all after school programs and extracurricular activities are cancelled.
Lexington One
All Lexington District One elementary schools will dismiss at 11:15 a.m., while middle and high schools will dismiss at 12:15 p.m. The district has also canceled after school activities.
According to Lexington One, the district cancels all daytime and evening meetings and events scheduled to take place at any district school, performing arts center, field or facility and includes all district programs, athletic practices or events, adult education classes, school or district-related meetings, events, or extra-curricular activities scheduled for tomorrow.
Lexington Two
Lexington District Two has canceled all after school and evening activities on Thursday, including after-care programs, adult education, and sports events.
Dismissal times will be 11 a.m. for elementary schools, and noon for middle and high schools.
Lexington District 3
Due to expected weather conditions and out of an abundance of caution for the safety of students, staff and parents/guardians, Lexington County School District Three is canceling all afterschool and evening activities that were scheduled for Thursday, February 6th. This includes the district’s Afterschool Program, all sports practices and games, meetings, and adult education classes.
Lexington District 4
Forecasted weather conditions include a high probability of severe weather on Thursday, February 6, 2020. In response, Lexington Four is canceling all after school activities as a precaution. This includes all afternoon and evening events, athletic practices, and extra-curricular activities. Likewise, there will be no school-based after school childcare.
For the safety of our students and drivers, Lexington Four will dismiss at the following times:
- Early Childhood Center - 10:30 AM
- Sandhills Primary/Elementary - 10:45 AM
- Francis Mack Intermediate - 12:00 PM
- Sandhills Middle School - 11:30 AM
- Swansea High Freshman Academy - 11:45 AM
- Swansea High - 12:00 PM
Lex-Rich District 5
School District Five has canceled all after-school activities, including adult education for Thursday.
- Elementary and intermediate schools will release at 11:15 a.m.
- Academy for Success will release at 12:10 p.m.
- Center for Advanced Technical Studies and Spring Hill High School will release at 12:00 p.m.
- Irmo Middle, Chapin Middle and Dutch Fork Middle will release at 12:15 p.m.
- Chapin High, Dutch Fork High and Irmo High will release at 12:25 p.m.
District officials will continue to monitor weather forecasts and conditions, and stay in communication with local emergency preparedness officials.
Midlands Technical College
All campuses will close at 12:30 pm.
Newberry County
Due to the threat of severe weather, all after school activities for the Newberry County School District have been cancelled for Thursday. Cancelled activities include all athletic games and practices, Boys and Girls Club after school care, meetings, programs, adult education classes, and all other activities and events.
Presently, this is AFTER SCHOOL only.
Newberry County Schools and Offices will operate on a two-hour delay on Friday, February 7. Buses will run two hours later than the regular route time with schools and offices beginning two hours later than usual. Pre-kindergarten classes which meet only in the morning will not be held.
Orangeburg-Calhoun Technical College
In anticipation of inclement weather, Orangeburg-Calhoun Technical College will cancel all classes beginning at 12:30 p.m. Thursday, February 6. The ribbon-cutting ceremony for the college’s new Nursing Building that was originally scheduled for this afternoon has also been postponed.
Orangeburg County Schools
Students will dismiss early today as there is potential for severe weather. Heavy rains and high winds may cause unsafe travel conditions for school busses as well as our employees, parents and student drivers.
*Elementary Schools will dismiss at 11:00 and Middle/High schools will dismiss at 11:30.*
All after-school activities, including athletic events, are being cancelled as well.
Richland One
Due to the forecast for severe weather and as a safety precaution, Richland One schools will dismiss students early today (Thursday, February 6, 2020). High schools will dismiss at 11:00 a.m.; elementary schools will dismiss at noon; and middle schools will dismiss at 1:00 p.m.
In addition to the early school dismissals, the following Richland One programs and activities are canceled for Thursday:
- All after-school programs, including after-school child care, 21st Century, comprehensive remediation, SC Homework Center and athletics tutorial programs
- All athletics activities (games and practices)
- PCD (preschool children with disabilities) Program afternoon sessions
- Richland One Evening High School Program classes
- Richland One Adult Education classes
District employees also will be dismissed early today. Employees have been notified of their dismissal times.
Richland Two
Richland County Schools District officials have also announced they will dismiss schools and centers early Tuesday.
Middle schools will dismiss at 12:30 p.m.
Elementary Schools will dismiss at 1:15 p.m.
High Schools will dismiss at 2 p.m.
Richland School District Two is canceling all after-school activities on Thursday, February 6. The decision is based on the potential for severe weather and unsafe travel conditions on Thursday afternoon. The forecast is calling for possible sustained winds at or above 30 mph, strong thunderstorms and tornadoes.
Saluda County Schools
Due to potential hazardous road conditions and out of an abundance of caution Saluda County Schools will dismiss early today February 6. Elementary schools will dismiss at 12:30 and middle/high schools will dismiss at 1:00.
South Carolina State University
Due to impending inclement weather, classes will be canceled from 2 p.m. through the remainder of the day on Thursday, February 6. All campus events and activities scheduled for Thursday, February 6, are also canceled after 2 p.m. Classes will resume on Friday, February 7, at 8 a.m. The National Weather Service has issued a severe weather alert for thunderstorms that could bring heavy rain and strong wind gusts.
While students will not attend classes after 2 p.m. on Thursday, February 6, faculty and staff are expected to remain at work until further notice. Employees are encouraged to take every precaution to remain safe. If impending weather conditions prevent employees from reporting to, or remaining at work, they should notify their supervisor immediately.
Sumter School District
Due to expected weather conditions and out of an abundance of caution for the safety of students, staff and parents, Sumter School District is cancelling all after school and evening activities that were scheduled for Thursday, February 6.
Early closures:
- Elementary schools will dismiss at 1 PM.
- Middle schools will dismiss at 1:45 PM.
- High schools will dismiss at 2:30 PM.
University of South Carolina
Due to expected inclement weather, all classes for the remainder of Thursday Feb. 6 are cancelled. Monitor Carolina Alert or sc.edu.
Wateree Community Actions Head Start & Early Head Start Centers
Head Start & Early Head Start Centers in Clarendon, Lee, Sumter, and Kershaw counties are dismissing at 12:30 p.m.
