Juvenile, Too Short, Scarface, among 'Legend of Hip Hop' coming to Columbia

The concert, set for March 29, will bring the old school era of hip-hop to Columbia.

Columbia, SC (WLTX) - Juvenile, Scarface, Too Short, and DJ Quick are among the artists leading the "Legend of Hip Hop' performance that's coming to the Colonial Life Arena.

The concert, set for March 29, will bring the old school era of hip-hop to Columbia. The concert features some of the most influential artists in hip-hop including Juvenile, Scarface, Too Short, DJ Quik, 8Ball & MJG, Bun B and Pastor Troy.

Tickets go on sale Friday, November 30 at 10 AM at ticketmaster.com, the ticketmaster App, or charge-by-phone at 1-800-745-3000 and also at the Arena Box Office.

The following information was provided by the Colonial Life Arena about all the artists involved.

ABOUT JUVENILE:

Having come up in the Hot Boys group alongside superstar Lil Wayne, New Orleans rapper Juvenile is a Southern hip-hop veteran, and a chart-topping one as well, having climbed the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 with his 2004 single "Slow Motion." Born Terius Gray, Juvenile was one of the initial figures involved in New Orleans' "bounce" craze of the early '90s, an uptempo style of hip-hop that combined gangster rap and party music. Known for his platinum-selling singles "Ha" and "Back That Azz Up”, Juvenile’s unique style is one of the most influential.

ABOUT SCARFACE:

Known as one of the best emcees in hip hop, Scarface (born Brad Terrance Jordan), has always been a storyteller utilizing his musical platform to lyrically bring awareness to communities worldwide. From his earliest verses in the late 1980’s as a solo artist and member of the Geto Boys, Scarface has always made sure to tell the stories that he feels the world needs to hear. His mark on the hip-hop culture has and continues to be undeniable.

ABOUT 8BALL AND MJG:

With a career that spans nearly two decades, Memphis, Tennessee rap duo 8Ball and MJG wear the titles of living legends. Premro "8Ball" Smith and Marlon Jermaine Goodwin (dubbed MJG for obvious reasons) met at Ridgeway Junior High School where they shared an affinity for hip-hop. Their union as a rap group was solidified during their senior year of high school. Their success came quickly locally as they gained a reputation as a rising rap group and soon became an emerging act in the Southwestern hip-hop scene.

ABOUT TOO SHORT:

Todd Shaw known as Too Short became the first west coast rap star. Known for guest appearances on tracks by the Notorious B.I.G., Lil Kim and Jay-Z among others, Too Short remains a major force on the mainstream and underground scenes in hip-hop.

ABOUT DJ QUIK:

West coast rapper and record producer, DJ Quik (born David Martin Blake), is known for popular albums “Quik Is The Name” and “Safe + Sound”. Quik had his own style that inspired artists like Roger Troutman and George Clinton. Throughout his career, Quik has collaborated with and produced for artists including 2Pac, Janet Jackson, Snoop Dogg, Whitney Houston, Ludacris, Dr. Dre, and others.

ABOUT BUN B:

Rapper Bun B (born Bernard Freeman) rose to fame in the duo UGK. Bun B and Pimp C formed UGK in the late 80’s and began of series of southern gangsta rap albums that were successful sellers. Bun B eventually embarked on a solo journey, making numerous appearances on other artists tracks and released successful solo projects.

ABOUT PASTOR TROY:

Known for high-voltage hits like Atlanta anthems “This Tha City” and “No Mo Play in GA”, Pastor Troy (born Micah LeVar Troy) has a way of appealing to the masses with his unique style. With his 11-album career, Pastor Troy has become one of the most respected figures in hip-hop today. Pastor Troy's second album for Universal, Universal Soldier, came in 2002 and was his most successful, charting at Number 13 on The Billboard 200. The album’s lead single "Are We Cuttin'" hit number 96 on The Billboard Hot 100.
