COLUMBIA, S.C. — Columbia is set to have another showplace for independent artists in the film community.
Spotlight Cinemas Capital 8, a locally-owned, first-run theater in the Dentsville neighborhood in northeast Columbia, has partnered with Carolina Film Network (CFN), a local nonprofit organization and film society to create The Arthouse Theater.
The goal of The Arthouse Theater is to be the place where CFN hosts "curated film series, talkbacks, performance art, red carpet independent film premieres, presentation lectures, workshops, seminars, their annual international film festival, and much more all centralized and supported through Spotlight Cinemas Capital 8."
CFN's film society (CFNS) seeks to bridge the gap from beginning and independent filmmakers and artists to industry professionals through grants, education and networking throughout the film industry. Members of the CNFS Advisory Board include Midlands artists Ashley Bennett, Preach Jacobs, Curtis Ceasar John, Tangie Brickhouse Beaty and Terrance Roseborough.
Upcoming events at The Arthouse Theater include the third annual CFN Freedom Festival International Film Festival, highlighting the work of underrepresented groups, women and military veterans, and The Ghoulish Oktoberfest, a fall-themed film festival for filmmakers in North and South Carolina.
