COLUMBIA, S.C. — Officials said on Sunday that a water main break had caused a boil-water advisory for part of a neighborhood along Harden Street.

Columbia Water issued the advisory for customers located on Harden Street from Wheat to Duncan streets, Duncan Street from Harden to King streets, and Wilmot Avenue from Harden to King streets. Princess Street is also impacted.

Authorities said a six-inch water main caused the advisory. Customers are urged to boil water for a full minute before drinking or cooking. Customers nearby who believe they have lost water or water pressure should also take the same precaution. Ice made from water that wasn't boiled during this time shouldn't be used for drinking.

Columbia Water said the city is working to correct the problem and invited the community to call the Columbia Customer Care Center at 545-3300. The city typically takes a sample of the water and has it tested for contaminants before lifting a boil water advisory.
