COLUMBIA, S.C. — In June 2023, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) issued a total recall of Diamond Shruumz products -- including edible chocolate bars, gummies, and cones (micro- and mega/extreme dose) -- because the contain toxic levels of muscimol, a chemical found in mushrooms of the genus amanita that causes severe illness.

Reported symptoms have included those linked to seizures, agitation, involuntary muscle contractions, loss of consciousness, confusion, sleepiness, nausea and vomiting, abnormal heart rates, and hyper/hypotension. According to the South Carolina Department of Public Health (DPH), use of these products has been linked to poisonings in 74 people across 28 states with a high hospitalization rate, including two potentially associated deaths. South Carolina has reported seven poisonings that required hospitalization associated with Diamond Shruumz or other mushroom-containing chocolate products.

“DPH has been working closely with our partners at the Palmetto Poison Center and the Department of Alcohol and Other Drug Abuse Services to investigate these poisonings in South Carolina and ensure that these dangerous products are no longer on shelves in our state,” said Dr. Edward Simmer, DPH director.

Although the product recall was issued on June 27, there may still be packages remaining on store shelves or in the process of being delivered to online customers. States with cases include: AL, AZ, CA, CO, GA, IN, IA, KY, MD, MN, MO, MT NV, NJ, NY, NC, OH, PA, SC, TN.

The FDA urges consumers who have purchased Diamond Shruumz products to stop using the product, destroy the product, and contact Prophet Premium Blends via phone at (209) 314-0881 or email at info@diamondshruumz.com with their order number to initiate the refund. Consumers are strongly encouraged to inform Prophet Premium Blends that the consumer destroyed the product to ensure it is no longer accessible.
