Injured Columbia Police Officer Out of ICU

An injured City of Columbia police officer is now out of the intensive care unit, his agency announced Thursday.

Columbia, SC (WLTX) - An injured City of Columbia police officer is now out of the intensive care unit, his agency announced Thursday.

Officers say Officer Pete Conklin is now recovering well at a local hospital.

Conklin was struck by a car while helping a stranded driver on Interstate 126 back on May 24. He's had several medical procedures since then.

Police said the most serious injuries were to his arm.

Conklin is a five-year veteran of the Columbia Police Department and is currently assigned to the Metro Region's Community Response Team.

No charges have been filed in the incident. The SC Highway Patrol continues to investigate the incident.
