Jadeveon Clowney's Father Sentenced to Three Years

The judge allowed time served to count toward David Morgan's sentence, which means the 47-year-old will spend one more year in prison for an incident he said never should have happened.

YORK COUNTY, S.C. -- The father of NFL star Jadeveon Clowney is headed back to prison.

On Monday, David Morgan was sentenced to three years on assault charges for his involvement in a 2015 shootout at a Rock Hill strip club. Morgan has already served two years behind bars for this incident.

The judge allowed time served to count toward Morgan's sentence, which means the 47-year-old will spend one more year in prison for an incident he said never should have happened.

“I made a mistake one night and got into this incident,” said Morgan during Monday’s sentencing hearing. “I apologize for that incident.”

Morgan is the father of York County native and Houston Texans linebacker Jadeveon Clowney.

Morgan was arrested in 2015 for repeatedly shooting at employees at the Crazy Horse strip club after management kicked him out, accusing him of attempting to grope the dancers. In court, victim Braxton Homesley told the judge he still doesn’t feel safe.

“I have no doubt in my mind if he is freed, two, ten, fifteen years from now he will probably attempt to harm me again, ” Homesley said.

The state requested Morgan to be sentenced to ten years in prison. Todd Rutherford, Morgan’s attorney, said he feels the state unfairly targeted because his son is in the NFL.

“He got a harsh sentence today based on the fact that his son is famous,” Rutherford said. “The request for 10 years is because his son is famous, the entire production in there is because his son is famous.”
