KERSHAW, S.C. — After a tornado touched down last month in Kershaw County and damaged North Central High School, folks have come from all over the state to help.
The first wave of donations brought a host of school supplies, but now the need has transitioned.
"We're at the point now where things are being identified sort of as they go. You know, a teacher in a particular classroom realizes, 'Oh no, I don’t have this like I had in the other classroom.' There have been folks that have been giving monetary donations and they’re using that pool of money they’re receiving to go get those things as they need them," says Donnie Wilson, Kershaw County School District's chief financial officer.
The school official says the team from North Central High is focused on making the temporary building the best it can be for the students.
"We are at the process now where we’re doing a lot of internal things that basically require us to go out and hire architects and engineers," Wilson says.
The CFO was hesitant to give an estimated number for what repairs and replacements will cost, but he is sure it will be well into the millions of dollars.
