38 left without a home after Columbia apartment fire

Residents say they could see the flames from the interstate coming from the Harbison Gardens Apartments.

Columbia, SC (WLTX) -- Columbia fire officials say 38 people are without a home after a fire in the Harbison area.

Officers responded Saturday night to the Harbison Gardens Apartments off Columbiana Drive.

Columbia Fire Chief Aubrey Jenkins says they are still trying to figure out how the blaze started.

Crews searched the buildings, and as of Sunday morning, no serious injuries were reported.  

The fire was contained by about 10 p.m. Saturday. 

Residents say the fire could be seen from the interstate.

Columbiana Drive was closed while firefighters contained the flames, but has since reopened.
