Sumter, SC (WLTX) — A reward of up to $5,000 is now being offered for for information that can help police make an arrest and
bring some solace to the family and friends of Chester “Rock” Stavis.
The 31-year-old's body was found around 9:30 a.m. Nov. 21 in a waterway near Rast and Dicks Streets soon after he had been reported missing. An autopsy determined Stavis had been shot to death.
Since November, Sumter police say they have questioned Carter Wilson Strother, 70, after a recent arrest by the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office on unrelated charges. Strother was the last known person seen with Stavis. However, officers say they do not believe he was involved or had any knowledge of
the shooting.
