EUTAWVILLE, S.C. — A six-year-old girl is dead after being shot by another child in an apparent accidental shooting in Orangeburg County, according to the Orangeburg County Sheriff's Office.
Deputies say around 3:40 p.m. Wednesday, investigators were called to an Eutawville home after a reported shooting.
Investigators learned that a six-year-old girl had been critically wounded after being shot by another child in the home.
The girl was transported to the hospital, where deputies said she later died from injuries from a single gunshot wound to the upper body.
“We are broken-hearted over this tragic loss of a little princess,” Orangeburg County Sheriff Leroy Ravenell said. “We lost someone precious this week.”
“My heart is extremely heavy at having to let the public know what happened,” the sheriff said. “This type of incident, this type of investigation is one of the hardest an investigator will ever do.”
