8-month-old baby girl allegedly beaten by Brookhaven couple dies

ATLANTA -- The father of an 8-month-old baby girl allegedly beaten by a Brookhaven couple tells 11Alive his daughter Kamonie has died.

Eight-month-old baby girl Kamonie died from her injuries after allegedly being beaten by the infant's mother and her mother's boyfriend.

ATLANTA -- The father of an 8-month-old baby girl allegedly beaten by a Brookhaven couple tells 11Alive his daughter Kamonie has died.

Nearly two weeks ago, police questioned the infant's mother and mother's boyfriend Shavone Whitehead, 24, and Edward Wilson, 33, for their alleged involvement in the brutal beating that happened on August 1.

Brookhaven Police responded to a home in the 1800 block of Corporate Boulevard after they were advised an infant was unconscious and not breathing. When responders got there, officers rendered first aid to the infant until the paramedics arrived.

According to police, while officers were present, they noticed bruises on the child that were consistent with signs of child abuse. Though Whitehead and Wilson have both denied their criminal involvement, police charged them with aggravated battery and cruelty to children.

The baby girl was taken to Children's Hospital at Egleston, where she remained unconscious and in critical condition. But on Sunday, her father shared the heartbreaking news that she was pronounced dead at the hospital 10:30 Saturday night.

11Alive reached out to Brookhaven Police for word on whether Whitehead and Wilson will face any additional charges now that the infant has died. Investigators said charges wouldn't be upgraded until an autopsy on Monday can determine whether the 8-month-old died from abuse.
