LEXINGTON, S.C. — A prominent military post in the town of Lexington is celebrating its 100 birthday this year.
American Legion Post 7 was started on August 4th, 1919 and ever since then, the post has served veterans and citizens in the county.
David Griffith is the commander of American Legion Post 7 and he says the Post does a lot for residents in the town.
"Our mission is to serve the veterans of Lexington county and we also have the youth who we send to boys state." Griffith said.
For the past century, the post has helped out veterans in the county through various projects. Recently, the post started American Legion Baseball, a program that gives students the opportunity to play baseball during the summertime.
Dorothy Tunstall, American Legion Post 7 Auxiliary President, says that the post has a special place in her heart.
"There's some remarkable people that are veterans, they are just different for me and they are willing to give there life for our country too, " Tunstall says. "This post means everything to me."
The town of Lexington will hold a celebration for the post on Friday at the Icehouse Amphitheater.
