Did you feel it? Another minor earthquake rattles Midlands

The United States Geological Survey (USGS) confirms a 1.9 magnitude earthquake occurred at 10:47 p.m on Sunday near Elgin.

ELGIN, South Carolina — Did you feel it? Another minor earthquake rattled the Midlands on Sunday evening, according to the South Carolina Emergency Management Division (SCEMD). 

The United States Geological Survey (USGS) confirms a 1.9 magnitude earthquake occurred at 10:47 p.m on Sunday, centered 7 kilometers (4.35 miles) East Southeast of Elgin, South Carolina, at a depth of 2.9 kilometers (1.8 miles).

Earthquakes are typically very difficult to feel below a magnitude of about 2.5. However, USGS records show 27 people have reported feeling this quake. If you felt it, the USGS wants to hear from you. You can report what you felt online here.

Sunday's rattle was the latest in a series of minor quakes over the last month. The area has seen a number of earthquake swarms since 2022 when the the area saw over 100 earthquakes of varying sizes.
