RIDGE SPRING, S.C. — A South Carolina restaurant has temporarily closed on Sunday morning due to a fire that happened sometime before opening.
While the cause is still under investigation, fire officials with the Ridge Spring Fire Department said crews were first called to The Blue Canoe Cafe around 10:20 a.m. to a fire that workers found when they arrived.
Fire officials said they were able to bring the fire under control fairly quickly but categorized the damage as significant - with much of it toward the back of the shop. The restaurant is housed in a former bank building off Main Street in the middle of town. The interior also suffered smoke and water damage, officials said. Fire officials do not suspect foul play.
The restaurant announced on social media that it would be closed until further notice but took the opportunity to thank the firefighters who responded. Fire officials said that crews from Batesburg-Leesville, Monetta and Saluda assisted in the response.
