BLYTHEWOOD, S.C. — The race for two Blythewood town council seats is between incumbents Eddie Baughman and Donald Brock Jr., and candidates Andrea Fripp and Tricia Hovis.
They all share one thing: A vision for Blythewood, as the community continues to grow.
Current council members Baughman and Brock are defending their record and hoping to continue to move Blythewood forward.
Baughman: “Improvements on the infrastructure, with SCOUT Motors coming, and they gonna put a new interchange out here on 77, widening of roads, shared bike paths & walking paths here in town, expand Doko Meadows Park and add more amenities for our residents.”
Brock: “I know that I have areas of expertise, and I excel in those areas. One of those areas is finance and accounting. We’ve made strides over the last 12 months in cleaning up some areas of the budget.”
Candidates Fripp and Hovis want to bring a fresh look to the council.
Fripp: “I would really like to bring some civility, it seems like, back to the council, and I would like to really focus on engaging the community in the governing.”
Hovis: “The biggest issue for me is the productivity of the town council. There are times I’ve come to meetings and there are Robert’s Rules of Orders, so if you don’t have a quorum and a certain amount of people, you all go home and nothing happens. So, I'd like for us to be able to commit and get something done.”
There is also a mayoral seat up for grabs and a referendum on the ballot.
Early voting ends Friday, November 3, 2023. Election Day is Tuesday, November 7, 2023.
