CBD Store Opens in Lexington County

The CBD Shop located on 5084 Sunset Blvd in Lexington opened on Tuesday.

Lexington County, SC (WLTX) -- There is a new shop in town and it is selling something that people once couldn't buy. One customer said he wants to check out the new store before going to his medicine cabinet.

"CBD is a cannabinoid," CBD Store Owner Bruce Lyons said. "It's made from industrial hemp, No THC, won't get you high."

"It's a natural substance that we already produce in our body," Store Manager Victoria Smiley said. "Most of us just aren't producing enough and what these products do is just promote us to create it like we should."

Lyons opened his doors to his store, The CBD Shop located on 5084 Sunset Blvd in Lexington on Tuesday. He said his shop is different than most because it only has CBD products. CBD is made from industrial hemp.

The South Carolina Department of Agriculture has a hemp pilot program currently and as it grows, so does the interest. The store in Lexington gets their CBD from Colorado, but they said that does not mean in the future they won't consider keeping it local.

"It would be really awesome to buy locally," Smiley said. "That's kind of what we want people to do, so I mean it's always an option."

Dozens of people checked out the new spot, some just to learn more about CBD.

"CBD is used as an anti-inflammatory, so it's really going to help people with chronic pain, anxiety depression it's a natural way to go," Smiley said.

Meanwhile others stopped in who have used it to treat pain.

"I have a couple of sports injuries that I had from high school and stuff and it helps, you know, my muscles relax a little bit better, the inflammation a little better than taking Advil and messing up my liver," customer Jonathan Parker said.

Parker said he thinks this is the new age of treatment.

"Everyone especially nowadays has someone they know that can benefit from the use of CBD oil," Parker said.

Industrial hemp does differ from marijuana and again will not get you high. Products can range from oils to creams and even dog treats. Industrial hemp can also be used to make other products including rope, food and paper.
