Columbia, SC (WLTX) After much concern from residents over the past year, a Charleston based restaurant is making its way to Five Points in a familiar location to Columbia residents.
Home Team Bar BBQ is opening at the vacant 700 Harden Street building where Harper’s Restaurant used to run.
“We’re really excited about being a part of the five points community, “ says Aaron Siegel, Owner and Founder of Home Team Bar BBQ, “Being a part of the Columbia community in general, it’s an hour in half from Charleston so we feel like we can keep that family atmosphere. “
The opening of Home Team Bar BBQ in five points comes just months after a Zaxbys was slated to open at the Harden Street location. The five points association and a group of residents opposed having a drive thru on the location, which led to Zaxby’s backing out of the plan.
Amy Beth Franks, Executive Director at the Five Points Association, says Home Team is a perfect fit for Five Points.
“We could not be more excited to welcome Home Team Bar BBQ to five points,” Franks said. “I think it’s the perfect place for people who live in our surrounding neighborhood to walk down, enjoy a great meal right in the center of that five points intersection.”
Siegel hopes to keep the family tradition of Harpers at his new Home Team location in Columbia.
“I know that Harper’s was a place that people liked to bring their families when they were in town and I hope that we can carry on that tradition a bit.” Siegel said.
The Five Points Association also said they wanted a family owned restaurant at the location, similar to other family owned restaurants in Five points.
Home Team is set to open this winter.
