Search underway in Charleston for missing, endangered man

Police say the missing 72-year-old is diagnosed with dementia and is believed to be on foot.

CHARLESTON, S.C. — Charleston police are asking for the public's assistance in locating a missing 72-year-old, who they say is considered endangered.

Police say James “Jimmy” Williams was last seen at 1954 Ashley River Road around 4:00 p.m. on December 28, 2023. He was last seen wearing a black jacket, tan pants, and a brown/red plaid shirt.

Williams is approximately 5'5" tall and weighs around 130 pounds with a grey beard and mustache, as well as short grey hair, according to police.

Police say Williams is diagnosed with dementia and is known to frequent The Battery in downtown Charleston, the Citadel campus and Hampton Park. He does not have a known mode of transportation and is believed to be on foot.

If you see Williams or have any information as to his whereabouts, police ask you to call 911.
