COLUMBIA, S.C. — A child has died after being found unresponsive at a northeast Columbia pool over Memorial Day weekend.
The Richland County Sheriff's Department said the incident happened Sunday, May 26. The coroner's office office confirmed the location as the Wildewood South Apartments, which are on Sparkleberry Lane.
According to an incident report from the sheriff's department, deputies were dispatched around 6 p.m. Deputies said the child was found in the pool area and was not breathing when they arrived. Responding units and Columbia Firefighters began rendering first aid to the child. The child was then taken to the hospital by ambulance along with a sheriff's department escort.
The victim was identified as 5-year-old Capri Robinson of Columbia.
Deputies said Robinson was pronounced dead at the hospital. The sheriff's department did not say exactly how the child may have died.
Deputies said the incident remains under investigation.
