LEXINGTON, S.C. — The Uplift Encouragement Group hosted its second annual resource fair for those with chronic illnesses and disabilities in the community, such as Alzheimer’s, Guillain-Barré syndrome, Parkinson’s and more.

Fair attendees spoke with vendors and suppliers about available resources for them or their loved ones.

Betsy Blake has a rare autoimmune disease, chronic inflammatory demyelinating polyneuropathy and attended the event as a GBS CIDP Foundation representative. She said this fair provides peace of mind for her peers.

"As a patient with CIDP and a rare disorder it was very hard finding resources and care when I needed it and having this fair today showcases all the resources that are needed," said Blake. "Mobility resources, nutrition, access to medication and care so many resources available so that it's important to highlight that these are available to help patients with all of these chronic illnesses."

Scheri Force, founder of the Uplift Encouragement Group, has multiple sclerosis and said that when she was diagnosed, she didn't know who to talk with.

"I'm all about educating people that have chronic illnesses and disabilities because I believe education is power," said Force. "The more we know, the better it helps us, and these fairs give people the opportunity that maybe can't get to any kinds of a support group to know what's available to them in the community, where to go and who to talk to."
