COLUMBIA, S.C. — Travelers across the nation are still experiencing issues four days after the worldwide tech outage on Friday, and Columbia Metropolitan Airport is no exception.
“Obviously, they’ve got a lot of work to do,” Delta passenger Anne Janet Harp said.
Passengers at the Columbia Airport were some of hundreds of Delta customers who experienced travel delays this week.
"Just delay, delay, delay because actually they changed it and then it has been changed again, so that’s three times,” Harp said.
Harp, who has to travel to Atlanta, the Delta hub, says she’s disappointed in the airline and hopes they give travelers more options.
“I hope they realize, Delta, that they’re going to have to circumvent some of these trips. There is no option but to go through Atlanta if you're flying out from Columbia, Charleston, or even Charlotte and have some more options so that this won’t be happening,” she said.
According to Flight Aware, Delta has canceled 475 flights and delayed more than 1,000 just on Tuesday alone. That would bring the total to 4,229 flights canceled since Saturday.
“There's still this ripple effect that has happened since Friday, and it has transpired over the weekend and until today,” Kim Crafton with Columbia Metropolitan Airport explained.
Crafton says they’ve had cancellations with other airlines as well.
"Right now, we're seeing two cancellations on American, two cancellations on Delta, with a number of additional delays on Delta. In addition, for Delta specifically, we're also seeing that on a national level, there is a lot of crew scheduling that is having a big impact on being able to fly aircraft,” Crafton said.
Crafton recommends the following if you plan to travel in the coming days.
“Make sure that they have their airline of choices mobile app downloaded, and they have access to customer service, but also to their overall flight status. Check it often, check it regularly and check it before you come to the airport. We're seeing some delays upwards of three to five hours,” she said.
If you’re traveling through Columbia Metro, be sure to check all flight cancellations or delays on their website before going to the airport.
