Columbia Food and Wine Festival weekend begins Friday

Motor Supply Co Bistro's Wes Fulmer on Heirloom Breeds + Seeds dinner, cooking demonstration

COLUMBIA, S.C. — The second annual Columbia Food and Wine Festival comes to Five Points this weekend.

The main event is Sunday afternoon when 45 Columbia-area restaurants, 11 local and regional breweries, and 12 wine distributors will present sample tastings.

There will also be cooking demonstrations by local chefs, wine seminars, and an array of specialty cocktails by some of the city's most innovative bartenders.

There is a limited number of tickets still available for some of the festival's satellite events:

  • the official kick-off dinner Friday evening at Saluda's
  • the International Corridor at Soda City Market Saturday morning
  • two beverage-centric events -- Brews and Views at River Rat Brewery, and Sips & A Seminar in the Pastor's Study at Lula Drake -- Saturday afternoon
  • and the Heirloom Breeds + Seeds four-course dinner Saturday evening at Seibles House and Garden, featuring chefs Wes Fulmer of Motor Supply and Jessica Shillato of Spotted Salamander, with cocktails by Josh Streetman of Motor Supply.

Fulmer says this is the second year that Motor Supply has participated in the festival.

"Last year was such a great hit that we wanted to get more involved this year and show what this festival can be like," he said.

"We're going to have such a variety of food" for the Heritage Breeds + Seeds dinner, he continued.

Fulmer and Shillato will each serve a dish for each course -- the entree course, for example, will consist of Shillato's braised rabbit with sour milk soubise, Lane Farms fennel-scented Carolina Gold rice middlins, Meadows Farm chestnut mushroom, and chicken craklin'; and Fulmer's Carolina Heritage Farm's suckling pig porchetta with Anson Mills' piccolo farro, roasted Brussel sprouts, smoked Indah Coffee gravy and pickled strawberries.
