COLUMBIA, S.C. — Gardeners! Here's your chance for free natural fertilizer.
City of Columbia Public Works will host a free compost giveaway from 8 a.m. to noon (or while supplies last) on Saturday, April 27, at the City Compost Site, 121 Humane Ln.
If you are a resident of the City of Columbia, all you need to do is bring a container or truck to put the compost in. Public Works staff will be on hand to help load material onto vehicles you choose to bring.
Compost is a great material for nourishing lawns and gardens as a soil amendment or mulch. According to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), mulched compost can help retain water around plants and reduce the need for chemical pesticides and fertilizers.
