Columbia, SC (WLTX) - One man is now in custody for several robberies, as well shoplifting incidents, around Columbia over the last couple weeks.
James McCray, 25, was initially charged with the armed robbery of a CVS store when he was arrested Monday at a vacant apartment at Lake Shore Village. He was reportedly living in that apartment at that time.
McCray was reportedly involved in several incidents at these locations during October and November:
October 28: Circle K–6122 Garners Ferry Road
November 2: Pitt Stop–4452 Devine Street
November 4: Spinx–7467 Garners Ferry Road
November 7: Pitt Stop–4452 Devine Street
November 11: CVS–7749 Garners Ferry Road
November 13: Subway–7523 Garners Ferry Road
Columbia police say McCray threatened the lives of employees using a sharp object during each armed robbery. In the other incidents, he reportedly pushed employees to steal hundreds of dollars worth of cigarettes.
McCray was booked at the Richland County Detention Center, and now faces several charges:
- Three counts of armed robbery
- Kidnapping
- First-degree assault and battery
- Third-degree assault and battery
- Three counts of possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime
- Strong arm robbery
- Two counts of shoplifting
