Columbia, SC (WLTX) - A Columbia Walmart that had heavy water and smoke damage following a fire last week has now partially reopened.
A spokesperson for the company says the pharmacy and grocery sections of the Walmart along Garners Ferry Road opened back up at 7 a.m. Monday.
The rest of the store, however, remains closed for now. There's no firm estimate yet when all sections will be back up and running.
Last Thursday night, the fire caused an estimated $6 million in damage to merchandise to the store, according to Columbia Fire Chief Aubrey Jenkins.
The fire began in the paper section. The flames only did about $5,000 in damage, but the smoke triggered the building's sprinkler system. The combination of the smoke and water ruined most of the merchandise inside.
Jenkins said it appears a child intentionally set the fire. Investigators made contact with that child and the mother, but so far, no charges have been announced in the case.

Jenkins said they had surveillance video that led them to make their conclusion.
