SAN ANTONIO — A small memorial is growing at Tom Slick Community Park, where two bodies were found, presumed to be three-year-old Kaiden Kriger and his mom Savannah.
Early Tuesday, authorities put out an amber alert for Kaiden only to cancel it hours later. Their deaths are now being investigated as a possible murder suicide.
"There's nothing but sadness surrounding this issue," said Edward Longoria, who stopped by the memorial. "My thing is for her to do what she did, she was desperate. And it's sad. I think it really is."
Members of the community have tied balloons to a pole in the middle of the park. Flowers have been laid underneath the pole. One bouquet reads 'RIP Kaiden, heavenly angel.'
The memorial is a bit further from where authorities found the two bodies believed to be the Krigers near a ditch at the park. A gun was recovered at the scene.
Not long after their bodies were found, family members came to grieve and comfort one another.
"It's hard as a parent to try and piece together what they could have been going through," said Orlando Gonzalez who stopped by to pay his respects. "What was the final straw that said, you know what? That's it."
Sheriff Javier Salazar with Bexar County explained that Kaiden was at the center of an ongoing custody battle. A hearing was scheduled Tuesday afternoon which did not happen.
"The father and the mother on both sides of this young lady...it's tragic," Longoria said. "And I hope this brings situational awareness to a lot of things."
The Medical Examiner's office has not yet released how they died.
