Richland County closer to bringing first Crystal Lagoons development to South Carolina

Initial permits have been approved for a new project with beaches, parks, and recreational amenities; construction could start next year.

COLUMBIA, S.C. — Richland County is one step closer to constructing the first-ever Crystal Lagoons development in South Carolina. The Department of Health and Environmental Services (SCDES) has approved initial permits for the development.

The planned site is between Fairfield and Crane Church Roads in the Oak Hills area. While the area is currently covered by acres of forestry, it will soon feature a nearly 1.5-acre beach area and a lagoon spanning about 3 acres.

The project is more than just a lagoon and beach. It will also offer a range of recreational activities, including tennis courts, a kids' zone, a wedding peninsula, waterfront restaurants, a retail hub, a hotel, water sports rentals, a luxury hotel, and a park. Crystal Lagoons will be developed in partnership with Contender Development.

Construction is expected to begin next year, though further details are still to come. News19 contacted Contender Development and Crystal Lagoons, a Florida-based company, for comment, but the company has not responded.
