Columbia, SC (WLTX) - Sumter police are looking for a person of interest in the death of a missing Sumter man whose body was found in a stream last week.
Chester "Rock" A. Stavis, 31, was found with a gunshot wound to the chest in a stream near Rast and Dicks streets on November 21, according to the Sumter County Coroner's Office. His death has been ruled a homicide.
Sumter police say it is currently unclear if he was shot at the scene or another location
Stavis, was reported missing on November 15 when he was last seen leaving his home. However, he was with an acquaintance later that day, according to a report.
Police are now looking for 70-year-old Carter Wilson Strother, who they believe may have information that would aid in the investigation.
Strother is reportedly known to frequent the US 15 South area of Sumter County. He is described as being 5 feet 6 inches tall weighing 200 pounds with gray hair and brown eyes.
